About
In Louisiana, parish clerks of court are charged with maintaining the parish's civil and criminal court records and serving as the recorder of mortgages, conveyances, and other authentic acts.  In addition, the clerk of court is responsible for the operations of all elections held in the parish.

The funding of the clerk of court's office is unique to parish government in that no tax money is provided for its operations.  Fees, as set by state statute, are collected for submitting documents for recordation and filing as well as for providing such services as court attendance, certified copies, and marriage and passport application processing.

The clerk of court's office is located in the West Baton Rouge Parish courthouse in Port Allen, Louisiana.  The West Baton Rouge Parish Council maintains the courthouse and provides the office space in which the clerk of court operates.
